What Is Body Contouring?

Body contouring is a broad term used to describe procedures that tighten loose skin and help target and remove excess fat from your body. There are several different types of body contouring procedures that will be described below.

Body contouring procedures are typically performed by a variety of different licensed healthcare providers such as dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and more. You should do your research to find the perfect specialist for you, before making decisions to get any cosmetic dermatology procedures done.

Common areas of focus in body contouring are:

  • Arms

  • Back

  • Belly and flanks

  • Neck and chin

  • Buttocks and thighs

Historically, most body contouring involved surgery. Procedures to shape the body were generally limited to tucks, lifts and liposuction, all of which are associated with the risks and down time that accompany surgery.

At Advanced Dermatology, we rely on procedures that are less invasive and lead to less down time. This is more appropriately termed as body sculpting than the term body contouring. The procedures we use are non-invasive and we use the latest technology to help you achieve your goals. If your confidence has plummeted and you don't feel like yourself because of sagging skin or localized fat, we can help. Learn more about the treatment options below.

Sculpsure® is a laser treatment that removes fat deposits from specific regions of the body. Laser energy is used to target and heat fat cells underneath the skin, without invading or affecting the surface of the skin. This procedure is ideal for people close to their ideal body weight who struggle to lose fat in localized areas.

Another treatment that we provide is Kybella®. The term Kybella is an injectable treatment developed to target fat cells in the chin and neck areas. This injectable product contains deoxycholic acid, which works by dissolving the membrane of fat cells. Once that membrane has been dissolved, the body naturally disposes of the fat through its normal metabolic processes.

Morpheus 8 is another device that is safe and effective at contouring. This is a microneedling treatment that utilizes radiofrequency energy to stimulate the production of collagen. Morpheus 8 has been used for tightening of the cheeks and neck, as well as skin laxity and stretch marks.

As you can see, there are several options for body contouring. If you have questions about these procedures or would like an evaluation, contact Advanced Dermatology for an appointment. We want to get you back to feeling comfortable and loving the way you look and feel.
